Rihanna's new S&M video has been banned in at least 11 countries so far. MTV also has considered editing the video to make it less adult orientated. The BBC will not run the video before 7 pm due to it's graphic nature.
Is this video anything new or is it just the same, good old publicity for the artist? Remember the 90's when Madonna's videos were being banned by MTV? That really hurt her career, lol. Is this just another publicity stunt or do you think that our society is pushing the limits on what should be allowed on TV? I watched the video and I believe I have seen worse in videos by Britney Spears. Every so often we get Music videos like S&M and all it does is create buzz. Then the buzz dies; until another video pops up that's supposedly even more controversial.
I'm not one for censorship, as you know. However, there are few things more upsetting than riding along in the car with your family and hearing "Rude Boy" come on the radio. Of all the things I don't look forward to, hearing "are you big enough/can you get it up" while in the presence of my father in law, and my husband's significantly younger brother, is right up there.
ReplyDeleteAs a woman, too, I'm not over-fond of what videos like this are teaching kids (of both genders): that, to get attention, all you have to do is take your top off. We tell men to respect women, and then women themselves act in a way that indicates their entire self worth is wrapped up in their sexuality. How can it both be somehow "empowering" for a woman to prance around like this, and "wrong" for men to react to her in a purely sexual way?
Rihanna..one of my favourite artist...i like all the songs....
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adored this girl as a young artist. The fact that se has been bought lock, stock and barrel by corporatism elites and transformed into nothing more than a glorified whore is beyond sad. I hope she never, ever has children of her own. Can you imagine having this as your mother?
ReplyDeleteI pity these gals. Yhey'll never have a strong patriarchal phallus in their lives.
ReplyDeleteGet over it, it's a friggin music video. Although I do feel a little dirty because . . . I liked it.
ReplyDeleteshe's more than just sex it's sad she doesn't think so.
